Brick pavers can make a very unique looking patio, walkway, or driveway. It makes for a solid and stable surface that even a car can be driven on. Brick pavers are normally set onto level compacted ground and layout out with a small gap in between each brick. Very fine sand is them brushed in between each of the bricks filling the gaps. A vibrating compactor is sometimes used on the ground before the bricks are laid and even used on the bricks after they are laid to help the sand get into the gaps better. Afterwards, the excess sand is swept away and a paver sealer can be applied to the entire area, over top the bricks and sand both. This well form a film and will help solidify the sand making in lock the bricks in place. Brick paver sealers can come in many different finishes. A popular finish is a glossy or wet looking paver sealer which really adds some beauty to the design. The paver sealer also makes it easier to clean the bricks in case anything is spilled onto them. It will protect against tannin stains caused by sticks and leaves and will also help with irrigation rust stains. If oil or other contaminants are spilled onto sealed pavers, it will make it easier to clean up. Paver sealer will last for several years protecting the bricks from the elements and increasing their life expectancy. After a few years the bricks can be pressure washed, new sand can be added, and a paver sealer can be reapplied.
