Many dogs have an uncanny ability to drive their owners crazy with their constant barking habits. They will bark at anything from a knock at the door, to a car driving down the street. There is hope, however, for owners who are at their whits end with their barking pets. Investing in a barking collar might be the best money spent for owners whose ears need a break. The collars are harmless and extremely effective at deterring the barking action. Many dogs become trained not to bark very quickly, while other, more stubborn dogs may take a bit longer.
The barking collar comes in different forms. One of the more popular versions delivers a slight shock to the dogs neck upon barking. The collar will warn the dog by beeping a certain number of times prior to delivering the shock. Most dogs will learn that when they hear the beep they need to stop barking.
Personally, I swear by the effectiveness of a barking collar. I have a little yappy Jack Russel Terrior. When I first got this dog I regretted every minute of it. She would literally bark at the heat vents because they were blowing air. I was not sure if I should even keep the dog at all when a friend suggested trying a barking collar. I was skeptical at first because I did not know much about them, and I was not sure if they were safe. So I did a little research and decided to give it a try. I went to the local pet shop and the Manager talked me through which type would probably be the best for my size of dog. I brought the collar home and put it right on my dog. As the dog started to bark, the collar started to beep. It beeped three times and then delivered a small shock to the dogs neck. She stopped barking immediately. It took her about two weeks to learn that the beeps meant that she was going to get zapped.
I have to say that I love my dog more now then ever. She has been great since I trained her with the barking collar. I would certainly recommend this type of training if barking is an issue.
