If you love angelfish then you will be happy to hear that breeding them at home is actually rather easy.  Here are some basics on what you need to do to breed these graceful and delicate fish.

An excellent breeding tank require that you take some extra care with the systems you use in the tank. Get an external filter and cover the intake tube with a sponge so that fry do not get sucked up into the filter. You will also want a heater that will maintain the temperature of the tank at a constant 77 degrees or 25 celsius. The warmth of the water will have a big impact on the breeding cycle of your fish. They will breed much better in slightly warmer water. When you don’t want them to breed, maintain the temperature of the water at 75 degrees.

The eggs will be laid on a flat surface. It will be important that you have safe flat surfaces in your tank where the eggs will be secure. Some people lead a piece of slate in the aquarium where the fish can lay their eggs. Other people put a terra cotta pot upside down in the tank for the fish to lay their eggs. It is also important to have plenty of broad leaf plants such as the Amazon sword leaf plants that provide an excellent place for your fish to swim and lay their eggs.

One other thing – you  must remove the parents as soon as the eggs are laid!  Adult Angelfish will eat the eggs so if you want your eggs to have the best change to hatch then get rid of the adults right away.
